Suria Sabah

Suria Sabah - The newest shopping mall in Kota Kinabalu opened its door early this month. Suria Sabah aspires to be the premier shopping mall in Kota Kinabalu city centre, with 700,000 square feet of retail space. I read that this is part of the project to turn Kota Kinabalu city seaside into a waterfront attraction for locals and tourists.

Where is Suria Sabah

Suria Sabah is along Jesselton Point jetty, where you board the boats to go to Tunku Abdul Rahman Parks. If you are returning from the islands, it is convenient to go to Suria Sabah for a meal, or to hang out for the rest of the day. Or you can pick up stuff like sun-screens, water, snacks on your way to the islands.
Suria Sabah is across the road from the first supermarket in Sabah, Tong Hing Supermarket. Tong Hing’s retail concept has always been different from being the lowest priced retailer. As far as I know, you can only find Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream here, which will cost you about RM30 for a small cup. Basically, more than 20 times what you pay for if you were buying Wall’s or Nestle ice-cream.
Suria Sabah is also close by to Wisma Merdeka, at one time the most popular mall in Kota Kinabalu. It is close by to the Sunday Street Fair at Gaya Street. Location-wise, Suria Sabah is in a prime spot, although locals would expect the traffic to be even worse than it is now. Within walking distance from hotels such as Hyatt International, or the numerous budget hotels and backpackers lodges in Kota Kinabalu city.
First Impressions
For now though, less than 10% of the retail outlets are opened. It looks beautiful, but a shopping mall without retailers and shoppers isn’t exactly a shopping destination yet. Aside from Metrojaya, there isn’t much to see.
If you want a place to eat, head to the lower ground floor. There is a Japanese-style shabu-shabu restaurant, Kenny Roger’s Roaster, Pizza Hut and KFC.

Centre Point Sabah

Centre Point Sabah is situated in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the State of Sabah. Situated just off the main coastal highway and within walking distance from the Central Business District. Centre Point Sabah is a one-stop shopping, dinning, office, car park and amusement complex serving the State Capital. This project was constructed on a 4.6 acres site in three phases. Phase I and II consisting of six levels of shopping area with a Department store and 400 other shops, 1380 car park bays on 6 levels, one floor of office space, one floor of entertainment area with 28 lines Bowling Centre, 8 rooms Cinema and Family Recreation Centre, were commenced operation on 24th July 1990. The final phase, consisting of Palm Square, an up-market retail establishment for branded goods and CPS Tower, an ultra modern office block with an 80ft. atrium, was completed in 1997.

Location
CPS is situated in Kota Kinabalu city, there are four hotels nearby CPS, they are Hotel Promenade, Le Meridien, Imperial Hotel and Waterfront Hotel (under construction). All these four hotels are in walking distance. There are also many seafood restaurants and entertainments in this area, like Ocean Seafood Restaurant, Port View Seafood Restaurant, Water Front Night Pub, K Box Kara OK …. etc. With the opening of Warisan Square it creates more choices for shoppers, visitors and CPS has become the most popular visited point in KK city.

City One Mall

City One Mall - Another shopping complex in Kuching and it becoming bigger and bigger. After the Spring and Boulevard, there is much more new shopping complex with bigger and bigger size. The competition of capitalism..I'm not against any modernization but on the trail of new shopping complex and building etc etc..keep our heritage like old building which have 1001 history of our place.. Enough for that mumbling statement, anyway currently november 2010,City One mall is still on the making,at the junction Airport Road off jalan Song, the placed considered strategic. From the photo aboved, shown Brighton Building which contain of shop houses and said to have the best Feng Shui area in Kuching.

City One Mall floor plan
-gross area of 1 million sq ft -Net lettable area of approx. 620,224 sq ft -37,000 sq ft supermarket (lower ground floor) -103,000 sq ft departmental store (ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor) -10 screen cineplex, including 3D Hall! (3rd floor)

Jonker Street

If you happen to be in Melaka, Jonker Street is a must see! The narrow street, which is located in the Melaka Chinatown, is also known as Jonker Walk and Jalan Hang Jebat.  It has several of the oldest houses in the country, dating to the era of the 17th century, therefore it is also unofficially called the Antique Street.  The thin street is famous amongst the locals for selling artifacts of different periods; you will certainly find stuff from various times of colonial rule, i.e. the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British, being sold here.

The artifacts include valuable and one-of-a-kind antique furniture, along with Chinese porcelain pieces, special brass objects and cast-iron beds.  Also of interest are unique lamps, treasurable coins and aged money, as well as Buddha statues of a priceless nature.  Antique freak or not, Jonker Street is a “must visit” for anyone eager to become knowledgeable of Melaka.
Tips for Travelers
Since June 19th of the year 2000, the Melaka State Government introduced a concept known as “Jonker Walk”.  This aims at flaunting the rich cultural heritage of the place.  According to the concept, the evenings of every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight) the locals at Jonker street line up along the street to set up and maintain their stalls to display and sell products associated with or reflective of the real cultural artifacts of the place (such as souvenirs, antique copper coins, local ethnic food and traditional dishes, along with unique arts and crafts).
Apart from these special hours when the bazaar is packed with visitors, Jonker Street has another specialty and that is food!  The street is also known to dish out some of the best cuisines in the town.  There is a good variety of shops and cafés selling a great assortment of food and beverages, like the Geographer Café (which is located in the very middle of the street and is especially a favorite among foreign visitors since it has popular live bands on Friday and weekend nights!).  Then there is a great shop, Jonker Dessert, which is located opposite to the Geographer Café and is well known for its delicious Baba Nyonya delicacies.
You should consider staying in a hostel located on Jonker Street.  The name of the hostel is “Number Twenty”.
Approximate Touring Time
You won’t feel like you have to leave the place anytime soon, so it is advised that you take out 3 to 4 hours from your schedule to visit Jonker Street.

Viva Home

Viva Home is a shopping centre located along Jalan Loke Yew in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. First opened in 1995 as Plaza UE3, it suffered a decline period and later was refurbished as Viva Home. The complex is located within walking distance to the Miharja LRT station.

History (As Plaza UE3):

Plaza UE3 or Plaza Uncang Emas, was constructed in 1995 and opened sometime around January 1996. It has Xtra Supercenter as its anchor tenant. Plaza UE3 featured an elevator shaft topped by a clock tower. Unfortunately, Xtra Supercenter suddenly wound up in early 2000, and marked the beginning of the decline period of the complex. Many shops were closed. Only a few managed to survive.
In late 2003, the complex was acquired by Danaharta and Hai-O Group. The complex was refurbished as MCC City (Malaysia-China Commerce). An influx of shops selling Chinese goods ie antiques, books, stationery, furniture and traditional Chinese medicine revived the complex, but not for long. A supermarket known as D-Choice Supermarket opened in the former premises left over by Xtra Supercenter. Unfortunately the supermarket closed in early 2007. The Chinese shops also begin to shut one-by-one. As of 2009, the complex is considered basically 'dead'.

Reopened as Viva Home:

In late 2008 the Kha Seng Group acquired the complex. The RM 2,000,000 refurbishment project of the complex commenced in June 2010.
After months of renovation work, the complex was successfully refurbished as Viva Home. The new complex took a different approach, that is, to create a hub for all home furnishing and interior decoration shops, at the same time providing restaurants and a hypermarket.
The complex opened on 15 April 2011, with Giant Hypermarket as the anchor tenant. The complex featured a cinema and a food court (currently under renovation) at the third floor. A number of restaurants opened at the ground floor, facing Jalan Loke Yew. A bridge was constructed to enable shoppers to walk to and from the nearby Miharja LRT station.

The closure of Looking Good had a detrimental impact on Bukit Jambul Complex, which had difficulties getting another anchor tenant. Over time, many outlets had to quit the complex, including Toys R Us, Cosmart, Dave's Deli, DeliFrance and Coffee Bean. This sees a deterioration of its middle-class market, forcing it to now cater to the lower end of the market at compromised rental. The revamp by neighboringSunshine Square as well as the opening ofQueensbay Mall further dented its market share.

Bukit Jambul Complex is embarking on a 2008/2009 makeover which it hopes will help it regain its market share. Already the complex is undergoing a paint job. The future of the complex will depend on whether it is able to attract middle-class shoppers, and this, depends on the tenant composition.
